Tangerine Tango: Pantone 2012 Color of the Year

Panton, the world’s top authority on color, has officially declared Tangerine Tango color of the year for 2012.

Described by Pantone as “sophisticated, dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenalin rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Tangerine Tango will get a lot of love this year—ranging from clothing, wallpaper, furniture in general, and of course, sleeper sofas.

This tangy orange will add life to any room, while dressing in step with neutrals and primary colors. As noted on Pantone’s official blog, “This luscious reddish orange adds sensuality to fashion, flair to accessories, verve to cosmetics, and lively luxury to interior surfaces and appointments.”

Look At Your Tie!

When buying a sleeper sofa, there are a lot of colors to choose from. Sometimes, it is hard to narrow them down. But, we’ve come up with a way to help people hone in on what will work for them: look at the predominant colors in your closet. To make it even quicker, just look down at what you are wearing today. There is a good chance you will end up choosing one of these colors.

Customers who visit our retail store are frequently wearing the color they end up choosing for their sofa bed. At first, we considered it a coincidence, but it just happens too frequently. The gal with spring green shoes, the guy in a red jacket and hat, the list goes on. We buy a lot of clothes in our favorite colors, and odds are good that we will be wearing that color when shopping for a sofa. We haven’t ruled out the possibility that our customers are thinking (consciously or not) about sofa shopping while getting dressed in the morning, and end up reaching for a blue hoodie because they want a blue sofa.

So, if you are feeling overwhelmed with options or are not sure where to start, look at the colors that stand out in your closer. They are a great place to start your search.

Leather!

For those of you who love leather furniture, we thought it would be interesting to provide a bit of background to one of the most diverse materials in the world. Documented back to pre-historic times, leather has long been used for shelter, clothing, and other basic needs. Now, it is used to make the wallets we carry, the shoes we walk in, and of course the sleeper sofas we sit on! Although our dependence on leather has not changed over time, the sources of leather have managed to expand greatly. While most leather comes from the hide of a cow, it’s not uncommon to find hides taken from pigs, alligators, snakes, goats, and even sting rays. Leather is a part of many of our everyday lives and is perhaps the most durable material available for furniture.

The first sofa-bed ever?

Sofa-beds have come a long way since 1871. Now, one can actually get a night’s sleep without disfiguring their back; a concept that really wasn’t brought to fruition until about a decade ago. Also, sleeper sofas aren’t as cumbersome as what is shown in the photo above–no longer is a forklift required to remove the bed. Today’s sofa-beds can even fit in the tiniest spaces (i.e. the Kristina Full).

Although we do not carry Berry’s Patent Folding Spring Bed-Lounge, we do offer the largest selection of sleeper sofas in the country. Unfortunately, our selection is not available at $5…

New Selection of Natuzzi Leather Sleeper Sofas

Natuzzi–the leading brand in leather furniture–recently launched a new sleeper program. Of course, we were some of the first in line to bring these leather sleepers in, test them out, love them, and offer them for sale to our customers. All of our ‘Natuzzi Editions’ Sleepers are made from 100% top-grain hide leathers, and feature a premium euro-style sleeper mechanism. This mechanism features straps to support the mattress; and really is an improvement over the original sleeper canvas styles. A (Sleeper Sofa) Seed Was Planted

Carlos Alcabes, founder and owner of Sleepers In Seattle, got married in 1976 and moved to California the following year with his wife (and co-owner) Meryl. Without much money, the newlyweds decided on a dual-purpose piece of furniture as their first purchase.

A Simmons Hide-A-Bed was the pick, and served as the young couple’s living room seating and bed for the first several months in their new home. Clearly, they fell in love–with the Hide-A-Bed–as they now run and own the nation’s most comprehensive sleeper sofa retailer 34 years later.
